Beast (X3) Marvel Legends (Hasbro) (Hasbro):( See that sad face? That says it all. I like Beast as a character so I won't hold anything against him due to Hasbro's inexperience with the Marvel Legends line. This version of Beast was modeled after the X-Men 3 movie, and in appearance they did a pretty good job. He looks like a guy with fur on him, he even resembles Kelsey Grammer to an extent, but the face is a little too narrow and generally too small, you could easily use this head on a 5-inch scale custom and it wouldn't look out of place. The huge, major, I'm-gonna-git-you-sucka' part about this figure is that he's too short! 5.80 inches is NOT acceptable for a Beast figure. Granted though, I have never held an official X3 movie figure like Rogue or Cyclops to measure, this Beast could be perfectly in-scale with them. That may have been the idea here so there's no reason why we should be upset with Hasbro for doing their job, assuming this is the case. Now that that's out of the way, on to the review! Beast stands about 5.8 inches tall, and 6 inches to the top of his awesome hair. I like this hair-style a lot more than the Wolverine-type he had in the comics, but it's a shame that it isn't shaded well enough to bring out the detail. He also has a cool beard along the jawline all the way to the chin. The face looks a litle too narrow for a Beast figure but it works. I like how the face has the same dual-personality the ML Series 10 Cyclops has. Depending on the lighting, Beast looks either friendly and noble or murderously dark like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. The green eyes are badly painted. The head and hair are cast in one solid piece. This Beast looks powerful, as he should, barrel-chested and sturdy. He wears a black, hard-rubber, short-sleeve jacket with a yellow X-symbol and some yellow stripes on the shoulders. It fits snugly, but at a side-angle it gives the impression that Beast has a hunch-back. I haven't figured out a simple way to remove the jacket, short of removing the arms and slipping it off, so if you know how to take it off safely please tell us! The black pants look good and have wrinkles at the cuffs, I think Beast would look a little better with a belt of some kind, at least just a buckle because the waist looks bland. The visible parts of his body are beautifully sculped with natural-looking fur, it's just too bad the entire figure has awful shading so the details are muddled. The hands and feet have neat finger-nails on them. You'll never have to worry about paint chipping off because the blue areas are cast with blue plastic and the black areas with black plastic. Maybe some of the dark shading on the blue will rub off but that can only improve this figure. <img class="rightfloat" src="Galleries/marvellegendshasbro/X3Beast2-S1.jpg">Thankfully, Beast has most standard ML articulation, only the fingers on the hands can't move. The head can't look up because of the back-muscle and jacket but it can face any other direction just fine. Surprisingly, the jacket doesn't limit arm-movement much at all! I still want to know how to remove it though...Beast has a mid-section hinge, which is always a welcome addition when posing a figure. All the joints are sturdy, and most are click-joints, which a great idea on Hasbro's behalf (or whoever decided to make them all click-joints). If you're looking for a Beast to match your Marvel Legends line, don't get this one. You're better off getting the old standard ML version or one of the XMC Beasts if you don't mind all the gear they have attached on their bodies. You should only get this Movie Beast if you're a die-hard fan of Kelsey Grammer, a ML completist, or have the 10 bucks to spare. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
