Phoenix (Green Uniform) Marvel Legends (Toy Biz) (Toy Biz)Is there anyone who doesn't know who Phoenix is? I even asked a nun if she knew who Phoenix was and miraculously she did! (I guess she read comics before!?) Anyhow, I was expecting some fanciful new body sculpt for Phoenix, to impress the fans (because no one would have forgiven them if they used an Elektra body for her), and well, they sort of did. They replaced Electra's ugly hips with more natural-looking ones (I still think they could reduce the crotch area a little more, but it looks pretty good as is). The legs and upper body are still standard though. At least they could have given her hands in a "projecting" form like Storm's, though it's nice to have an improved female body to use as custom fodder (we love you Warbird!). Our beloved Jean stands about 6 inches tall, even though apparently she's supposed to be only 5'6'' tall, but I'm not complaining ;), and has flexible, flowing, orange hair (yes orange, not red). It's fiery-orange and is highlighted with a lighter orange, but it still looks like a bunch of spaghetti, not like real hair (or flames) at all. And sadly, it still looks better than many other female hair sculpts. And now the question that has been plaguing the minds of fans everywhere: does she look like Jean Grey? Is the face unequivocally Jean's? Quite simply, no. But after a while you start to see a resemblance (well, I did anyway). At least the face is neatly painted, the rest of the body is a different story. There are small chips in the paint at the elbow/knee joints and the pointed part of the yellow paint on her leg is too light. You can tell there is green underneath it. I never liked the Phoenix symbol on her chest, it just doesn't seem right, and then again she doesn't look right without it, very irritating! The whole suit has a metallic sheen to it, but it isn't metallic paint at all! It looks like a little bit of silver was mixed into the paint for this pearly effect. The yellow sash has a little golden...something sculpted onto it. I'm guessing it's supposed to be a little Phoenix symbol, I can't tell for sure...but hey, at least they used yellow pegs for the yellow knees and elbows this time! Yay!... Phoenix has standard Marvel Legends articulation, including a mid-section hinge and shoulder-sleeves. Normally I'd complain about the sleeves but the female figures look okay with them. Jean comes with a comic (not sure which one) and a nicely detailed, transparent-orange-red, heavy Phoenix-fire base. It looks great and Jean can be clipped onto it. You can hang it on the wall or stand it up by itself. Or you can try and use the little indentation in her back with a clear flight stand, and I do mean TRY because the flight stand's peg doesn't fit in the dent, it's too small, making the hole in her back useless. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
