Batman (DC Super Heroes (Mattel)) Review
Batman
DC Super Heroes (Mattel) (Mattel)What? Plastic Batman Reincarnation No.47,834? Great...

At first glance, hurrah, it's just another Batman, but with the 6-inch-scale-craze Marvel started, this Batman deserves another look, even though lots of other 6-inch Batmen have been made, and even if only as fodder for your next custom. :)

This newest Batman stands about 6 1/2 inches, and it is a fine addition to your army of Batmen. He wears the classic grey and blue colors with the new bat-symbol engraved on his chest (I think this blue/grey suit looks strange without the original yellow symbol though). The detail is outstanding. Stitches, wrinkles, and shading abound. The head alone is something to be proud of. The white eyes stand out against the darker shading, the mask is well-sculpted, and the ears are just the right length. The lips make him look like Val Kilmer when he played Batman in one of the movies, but I don't like Val Kilmer so let's move on. The gloves and boots are finely tailored and sculpted, not just cheaply painted. Every nook and cranny is emphasized by the great shading. Bat's hands are stuck in fists though, which limits the amount of effectively awesome poses you can put him in. There is a slit in his left fist where you can stick in one of the 7 batarangs he comes with (finally, a Batman with cool batarangs and not some ridiculous cannon-gun he would never use anyway!). The 'rangs and very flimsy though so you'll have a hard time sliding them into the slit. The flexible-plastic cape is nice and so is the way it attaches to Bat's neck, seamless! Even his underwear has seams and is nicely shaded, although that big bulky belt covers most of it. Why would they give him that ugly belt? When was the last time Batman wore such an ugly incapacitating item? It blocks some of the leg articulation. And it's ugly.

DC is getting smart and starting to add more articulation to their figures. Batman's neck is a ball-socket joint which lets his head tilt almost anyway you want. The shoulders are socket-swivel-hinges, arms are swiveled, elbows are hinged, gloves swivel, mid-section is hinged, waist swivels, hips are swiveled and hinge outwards, legs are swiveled, knees are hinged, and the ankles are hinged and slightly rocking. 24 POA are quite nifty when they are put in the right places!

Bats comes with a Gotham City cardboard display. It looks nice but the ENTIRE thing should have the Gotham City sky-line in the background instead of that weird yellow electro-burst.

Cool, Kyle got all the figures from the Annihilus thing already so he should be able to confirm that. Assuming he didn''t throw everything away in a fit of rage already xD

ya, dc needs more accessories. from online pics, it looks like hasbro dropping clamshells. i checked out the new spidey line and the card backs were STURDY, so i think itll be okay.

Yeah, someone should write them an angry letter or something
I think Marvel has more packaging protection becuase of all the junk that comes in each package. Comic, diorama, base/stand, BAF piece, and the actual figure itself with any accessories it may have, that''s a lot of stuff, a simple bubble on a card isn''t going to hold that together for very long DC just has the figure and a light base (if any).

so thats why toybiz used to lock them in prisons, i mean clamshells. the figures that are for playing (ML) are kept in the hardest to open type of plastic. yet the toys that even say they are not for playing are kept in the flimsiest things ive ever seen.

Yeeeaaahh....that''s why it says "Collector''s Action Figure" on the DC packages (on the few I''ve seen anyway), they''re meant to be kept on a dusty shelf forever. ML''s are more for playing with.

Its still subject to approval by whoever is in charge of the marketing or whatever at DC. Like Dr N said, if not you would see alot of figs not spot on. I read an article with Digger of Four Horsemen a while ago(it was for the X Men water wars line in the late 90s) saying about how they can use a little creativity but it still has to pass whoever is in charge.

That may be true but I''m pretty sure representatives from DC oversee the sculpting process to make sure the toy is on-model. I''d like to think they have say in articulation as well. I''d like to think DC doesn''t just give Mattel permission to do whatever the hell they want, that''s how bad figures are made! :P
