Buzz-Saw (SilverHawks (Super7)) Review
Buzz-Saw
SilverHawks (Super7) (Super7)While the Silverhawks being a band of flying cyborgs is pretty neat, I will admit I find the Mob, the main villains of the show, much cooler. The variety of characters, unique designs, and personalities make them more enjoyable to watch than the good guys. One that stands out is Buzz-Saw, a giant robot who's equipped with various buzzsaws, hence the name.

Buzz-Saw has one of the least complex designs in the show, due to his simple colors and shapes. The head manages to make him look quite menacing, though, with jagged mouth, blank yellow eyes (a lighter shade than the yellow used for his body), and of course, a saw blade on top of his head. In addition to his default portrait, he gets two other heads, one with an open mouth, and another with the blade designed as if it's spinning. Interestingly, the extra heads have moving blades on top, whereas the default head doesn't. I guess Super7 wanted a seamless look for him.

At about 8 1/2" tall, Buzz-Saw isn't as big as Mon*Star, but he feels a bit heavier and much nicer all-around. As stated already, his design is pretty simple, with many blocky shapes and composed entirely of shades of yellow. Not only did Super7 nail converting him to 3D, but the aesthetic looks very nice, thanks to flat, bold colors, with the only plastic shine being on the chest cords. The paint is good aside from a bit of slop and bleed, but it's worth noting that the upper part of his body should be a lighter shade of yellow, like on the elbows. It's more of a minor nit than anything.

Buzz-Saw's design lends itself very well to articulation, being able to incorporate the usual Ultimates movement. The head is a barbell joint, but his design limits it to mostly just turning. Rather than swivel/hinge joints, the shoulders are on ball-pegs, allowing for some decent movement. The wrists are swivel/hinge joints (albeit hinged side-to-side), and are joined by bicep and forearm swivels as well as hinged elbows. The waist merely swivels, and below it are swivel/hinge hips, knees, and ankles, alongside swivel thighs and feet. You can manage some nice poses with everything, but be mindful of how tight some of the joints can be, so you'll need some heat to get him moving all over. And yes, the blades on the shoulders and forearms can spin.

Buzz-Saw is a bit light on accessories, but he's already a giant robot; how could they make him more fun? He has three different heads to choose from, as well as an alternate pair of gripping hands. I don't think it matters how you swap the hands, since they're completely symmetrical. There's also an arm blaster that one of the hands can be swapped out for, and it's pretty darn cool (though putting a hinge on it is pointless since there's no way to pose it). The chest cords can be swapped out for extended ones, and the short length of the default ones can make them hard to pop out, but once you do, the extra ones pop in with ease. Aside from interchangeable stuff, he also gets a funky blaster and his robobird friend, Shredator. Shredator looks pretty nice, and not only does he have a turning head and tail in addition to double-jointed wings, but the little saw blade on his head can actually spin. Cool, huh?

Most of the Silverhawks figures I've gotten turned out okay (Steelwill would be great if it wasn't for that damn right bicep), but Buzz-Saw is truly amazing. He's big, hefty, looks and poses great, and is just cool in general. There's a vintage toy-inspired version coming out soon, but I'm not sure about getting it. $65 for a repaint that doesn't bother to be truly toy-accurate, in addition to having less accessories, feels like an easy pass, but if I can get it for as cheap as I got this guy, I may go for it.
