Baxter Stockman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7)) Review
Baxter Stockman
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) (Super7)I can't believe it took me this long to add this one to my collection, especially when I already have the redeco of him.

As is the case was with most old TMNT toy designs, Baxter was very different from how he looked in the show. His show design was freaky but cute, while his toy design was freaky but… freaky. Compared to how he looked in-show, toy Baxter has a purble and blue head, messy orange head, and visible teeth. The head on the Super7 update looks no different from the original Playmates figure, except it's not stuck looking up. He's still got a bit of a neck there, though. The sculpt was done by Four Horsemen studios, who managed to keep, if not improve, the detail from the old figure.

Baxter is around 7" tall, or 6" if you have his legs squat, and looks just like a larger version of his original figure. The big fly arms and wings in the back were a separate piece originally, but here they're sculpted as part of the figure. The fly parts have a lot of detail on them, including a ton of visible veins. His labcoat is a separate layer of soft plastic sculpted over the torso, but they only did that so they can get some extra movement on the body. It's still a neat way to handle it, and the solid white is good. Much of the appearance is aided by the paint, as they spared no amount of color on the figure. There's painted wash and veins on the fly skin and hair, and the little details that went bare on the original, like the wedding ring and watch, no have paint to them. Heck, this guy looks better than just about any Turtle figure Super7's doing now.

Baxter gets a pretty big amount of articulation, with joints all over. The head move on what is either a single or double ball-joint, and unfortunately doesn't have a lot of tilt. Both the human and fly arms get swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, and wrists, and they work great for plenty of poses. The wings are swivel/hinge joints as well, and there is not only a waist swivel, but a ball chest hidden under the coat. However, it barely gets any range, mostly due to the coat. The legs are alright with ball-jointed hips and swivel/hinge knees and ankles, but the ankles don't have any rocker movement. Fly guy can still get some nice poses even with the limitations, but balance is an issue he tends to have, even with the legs squat.

Moving onto accessories, Baxter gets four sets of hands - gripping, gun grip, grasping, and closed - and they swap easily. It's always nice to get plenty of hand options for a figure, since it allows for more looks on the shelf. The "Anti-Turtle Swatter" is retained from the old figure, and the little turtle who fell victim to it is now painted. There's also a laser gun which seems to come from the cartoon, as well as a Mouser pack-in. Standing 3 1/4" tall, the Mouser resembles the one from the "Wacky Action" line, and gets movement at the jaw, neck, and hips. Lastly, there's the ever pointless unpainted weapons rack, made even more pointless by the fact that it can't stand up on its own.

Before wave one came out, Super7 presented the first release in the line with an SDCC exclusive Baxter redeco. This "Bug Zapper blue" version of the mutant scientist cast his skin, both fly and human, in glow-in-the-dark blue plastic, along with blue hair and pants, and various metallic accents, most notably on the coat. His accessories are all cast in glow plastic as well with some paint, and overall, the glow is decent, but it can wear off over time. If that happens, just shine some light on everything to make him glow again.

Baxter is one of the nicest Ultimates Super7's ever done, thanks to his great detail and paint, along with that fun Mouser accessory. The glow variant's pretty cool as well, but it's one you had to be there for. I managed to grab one right from S7's site, but now eBay's your only shot.
