Write a Review link for that item. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca)If there's one thing that makes action figures more fun, it's accessories, and lots of 'em. NECA has put out a couple accessory sets recently, including a follow-up to their TMNT movie accessory set from '21. Covering its sequel, Secret of the Ooze, this set was also a NECA Store-exclusive preorder early last year, so unless you jumped on that, eBay is your best bet for it now. The packaging isn't much different from the first accessory set, being a simple windowless box with photos of everything included on the sides and back. It's not much, but it does the job. On the inside, everything is secured in a plastic tray, no plastic ties or anything, making it all easy to remove and replace. Kicking things off are extra heads for each of the four turtles. Leonardo gets a stern look, Donatello and Raphael have happy faces, and Michelangelo gets a thin smile. An extra Raphael head is included as well, with duct tape over his mouth. If I recall, this comes from the scene where he was held hostage by the Foot. All five heads have great sculpts and clean paint, and unlike the first movie heads, these ones don't have barbell joints already in them, as the SOTO Turtles were meant to have swappable heads from the start. I would recommend heating up the plastic on the heads to make popping them on and off easier. My favorite accessories here would have to be Tokka and Rahzar, post-anti-mutagen. Sculpted by Paul Harding, the two have been turned back into a snapping turtle and a wolf respectively, and while the turtle looks great, the wolf isn't as good. I feel it loses a lot of detail in its plastic form, especially on the face, and the paint could've been handled better. Still, if you want some generic animals for your display, these two work great. Both critters get a ball-jointed head, and the turtle gets a hinged jaw. Up next is a number of accessories to recreate the scene where the turtles tidy up April's apartment, with two soft-goods aprons, two scrubbing brushes, and a bo staff converted into a two-headed mop, the top of which can slide off so you can fit it into Donatello's (or someone else) hands. In case the turtles get hungry, there's two bags of chips, two mugs, a candy bar, and a bowl of popcorn. A cardboard pizza box is included as well, much like the four-pack, but this one contains four whole pizza slices. Rounding things out are an old-style computer, coming from the TGRI building, with a matching keyboard, and an empty mutagen canister that can "break" in half. The fedora fits with any of the turtles, and has a hole in the back for the bandana tail to fit partially through. The keytar is an ever-iconic item, being used by Michelangelo to blast Shredder out of the club. The payphone is a nice accessory, designed to be hung on a wall, and the suitcase is nice as well, with printed-on stickers and the ability to open up and store some of the smaller extras. Lastly, there's a newspaper, reading "NINJA RAP IS BORN" on the front. Now if we could just get a SOTO Splinter to read it… The four-pack of Turtles from this movie was really fun, and this set makes it even more so. With extra heads for the ninja bros and plenty of accessories that can be used with any figure you have in your collection (at least everything in a 6-7" scale), the opportunities with this set are endless. Sure, it's a bit pricier at $60 as opposed to $50 like the last accessory set, I feel you're getting your money's worth here, as NECA fit in enough to justify it. I wish the bop bag from the opening scene was included, but fingers crossed NECA makes it happen in the future. - 1/21/23   by RMaster007 |
