Tokka and Rahzar Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca)So this one's an interesting story… It's hitting Target now, but was available on the Costumes website when Haul-a-thon happened back in March. A handful of people got it, some for their collection, others to sell for hundreds of dollars cause they're scum. After a long while wondering when it'll see proper release, this set finally showed up in-store at Target, and it keeps up the trend of easy-to-find Turtle two-packs. The designs of Tokka and Rahzar in the cartoon seemed to be closer to the figures than the movie designs said figures were based off, so I guess these could be updated versions of the old figures? Anyways, Paul Harding is sculptor once more here, and their sculpts are spot-on to the show, though I did notice that compared to shots from the show, Tokka's face is quite off. The proportions of his body are great, with a nice, chunky sculpt, but I think they made him too short. Tokka is 5 1/2", while Rahzar is about 7 1/4", but Tokka should come up to his shoulders, so he's about a half-inch too short. Rahzar is near-perfect, though. He has a great sculpt, with the high point being the textured fur we've seen on past figures by Harding. While the paint is equally nice, mine has some white marks on the hair and the inside of the mouth, and that's what holds him back from perfection. Other than that, both he and Tokka manage to avoid any sort of bleed or other slop. Both figures have the usual articulation for this line, and it all works to manage nice poses. The mutants both get a ball-jointed head and chest, swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, and ankles, swivel biceps and thighs, double-hinged elbows and knees, and ball-socket hips. Both even get hinged jaws, and the shoulder pads on Rahzar move up and down to accommodate shoulder movement. Aside from a slight sticky joint on Tokka's wrist, there wasn't a single stuck joint on either figure, which is surprising. I'm glad I didn't have to use any hot water this time around, and both figures move very nicely. Rahzar has some slight looseness in his left leg, however, but it's not enough to hinder anything. Tokka and Rahzar were first introduced in-show terrorizing a mall in search for food IIRC, so it only makes sense that this two-pack would come with some food stuffs for them to eat. There's a drumstick, a piece of meat on a bone, a fish, and a platter with a turkey or chicken and some other things. It all looks nice, and can go well with your other figures in case you're thinking about a Thanksgiving display. There's also a device that I assume comes from the same episode, and it'll probably go well with Dirk Savage once he comes out. Lastly, both T&R get their choice of gripping or clawing/grasping hands. They swap easily, though I wish closed hands were included as well. When NECA put out their Secret of the Ooze Tokka and Rahzar two-pack, it proved to be one of their best Turtle releases, and their toon version aren't too far behind. Now that we know Dirk Savage is happening, these two, along with previously released figures such as the Punk Frogs and Mondo Gecko, should go great with him. But until then, these two put along with their big screen counterparts should make for an interesting display. - 10/13/22 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
