Casey Jones (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie) Review
Casey Jones
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca)While there’s no doubt the NECA TMNT lines have gotten easier to find in 2021, there were still some that eluded me and other fans. While a lot of people found the Turtles in Disguise four-pack and Dirtbag/Groundchuck in their Targets, I never saw the former, and I’m still searching for the latter. Walmart isn’t any better, but it’s starting to look up. I managed to find the repainted Super Shredder and the Saki/Yoshi two-pack, but no sign of the “Ultimate” Casey Jones.

Not the first time I had trouble finding a Casey, though. I never found either the movie or toon two-packs featuring him last year, and like two months ago, I had to pay $85 for the toon set. Sure, it was quite a bit, but it was a better deal than paying like three times the SRP on eBay. Alongside that quarter-scale Raphael I got back at a toy expo, I found an Ultimate Casey selling for $45. That was pretty much the best deal I could ever get for it, so I got him.

The packaging follows a similar motif to the rest of the movie line, with two headshots of the figure on the left side, a full shot on the right, and a bio on the back. The front is just a picture of Casey’s mask, and while simple, it’s still pretty nice. On the inside, there’s only one twist tie holding in the figure, and most of the accessories are held in place by a plastic overlay. Talk about collector-friendly!
Casey was already done in movie form before, and this is just a singular re-release of a figure that came with a trenchcoat-wearing Raphael, but with some new tooling. From what I heard, the masked head here may have been touched up on a bit, but I’m not too sure. It does look pretty good, though, but we now have an extra unmasked head. The likeness of his actor, Elias Kotas, is used here and it’s very accurate to his on-screen appearance. The details and texturing on his clothes look great, as well as some nice paint all around. He stands around 7 ¼” tall, putting him at good height with the rest of your collection.

There’s some pretty nice articulation on Casey, allowing for plenty of fighting poses. The ball-jointed head has great up-and-down tilt, but the hair restricts side-to-side motion a bit. The arms have swivel/hinge joints at the shoulders, elbows, and wrists, and I should note that the initial release had double-jointed elbows, but here, they’re single-jointed as to give him a nicer appearance. The ball-jointed chest and waist, hidden under the shirt, both work great, and below them we have swivel/hinges for the hips, knees, and ankles, as well as swivel thighs. The hips have ratcheting hinges to help hold a pose, but they shouldn’t be too hard to move, though I’d advise you to take care.

There’s quite a lot of accessories here that make this figure “ultimate”. Aside from the fists Casey has wearing, he also has a pair of tight grips (for the golf club), a pair of more open grips (for the rest of the weapons), a pointing right, and a loosely gripping left. All of the hands swap easily, and fit tightly on the arms. As for his arsenal, Casey has two hockey sticks, one of them which is rather large, a golf club, two baseball bats, and a cricket bat. There’s also his bag to hold all of it, and yes, it can hold everything. Lastly, we got two new accessories for this release. There’s the alternate head I mentioned earlier, and it swaps easily, and the mask by itself.

I think the only gripe I have regarding Casey is that I could NEVER find him in Walmart, and while I am thankful for the deal I got for him secondhand, I wish NECA would put him up for pre-order on their online store. Overall, he’s a great figure, and an integral part of your collection. If you get lucky and find him, buy it. Hell, get two. A friend could use him.
