Napoleon and Attila (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon) Review
Napoleon and Attila
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca)Let’s face it. While Playmates has given TMNT a lot of love over the years, I feel like NECA is giving the proper treatment it deserves nowadays. With various different lines going on right now, plenty of characters, and some upcoming crossover figures with Universal Monsters, we’re pretty much getting spoiled. One thing to note about them is that they’re doing characters that have never been made into figures before, such as Granitor from the original cartoon and Danny Pennington from the first movie (who I will review soon), but what’s really special is that unlike Playmates, they’ve done all four of the Punk Frogs. We got the first two, Rasputin and Genghis, back in the spring, and just recently Napoleon and Attila have begun to hit stores. Like other cartoon figures, they’re Target exclusives, but they shouldn’t be too hard to find depending on how much your local stores get in.

The packaging is the same as always so I won’t say anything, but the sculpts here are the same as the other two frogs. Well, almost the same. The only change is the necklaces, which have circles on them instead of triangles, but other than that, it’s all reuse. It makes sense, right? Like the turtles, the frogs all used the same basic design in the original show, with only variations in color and whatnot, so I’m not complaining. There’s two heads for each frog – happy and scared – and the sculpts all around look just as good as before, standing about 5 ¼” tall each. The paint is pretty good, with very little bleed. Napoleon is a darker green than Attila, but the difference is more noticeable when you take them out of the box.

The articulation is the same as last time, and what we got here is still pretty good. The ball-jointed heads work great, and they swap with the extra ones much easier this time around. The arms are outfitted with swivel/hinge joints at the shoulders, elbows, and wrists, as well as swivels at the biceps. The elbow hinges were tight out of the box, so I’d suggest letting them “breathe” for a bit before trying to move them (you can use hot water or a hair dryer to soften the plastic if they still won’t budge). The ball-jointed chest has plenty of tilt, and there’s a swivel waist as well. The legs are great with ball hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, and rocker/hinge ankles, but the hips seem a little loose. Still, they move great and offer plenty of poses.

As for accessories, both frogs have two extra sets of hands along with extra heads. Napoleon has closed hands and “hang loose” hands, and Attila has looser grips and thumbs up hands. The “hang loose” and thumbs up hands are new, but the other two pairs are reused from the previous set. The little frogs are also reused, but they’re repainted to match the bigger ones here. What is new here are these two’s weapons. Napoleon has a whip which looks great, and even has a bendable wire inside so you can pose it. Attila has a flail that also looks great, and I love the metal chain it has. Rounding things out are two bags of money, which are sculpted to sit upright, and a scrapbook with little photos of different figures.

While I feel that a few nits need to be worked out articulation-wise, that’s my only complaint about this set, and I love everything else. I should note that this set is $55 in-store as opposed to $52 like previous sets, and that’s because of the current overseas shipping situation, which has resulted in some companies like NECA having to raise prices, but the price here is still reasonable, and for whatever it’s worth, it’s still worth it to finally have all four frogs.
