Bloodsport (Masked) DC Multiverse (McFarlane)It hasn't been too long since DC's latest movie, The Suicide Squad, hit both theaters and HBO Max, and it quickly proved to be a hit thanks to a great cast and a perfect mix of action, gore, and comedy. Certainly a lot better than the 2016 film, am I right? Of course, like its predecessor, merchandise quickly rolled in for it, including some figures as part of McFarlane's ongoing DC Multiverse line. This wave has a "build-a-figure" gimmick; collect all four - Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker, and Polka Dot Man - and you can build a huge King Shark figure. You can also grab the pre-assembled Shark himself exclusively at Walmart, but he may be hard to find. I found Bloodsport a while back, so let's get to it. The packaging is both simple and attractive in design, and you'll know what I'm talking about if you read my review of the company's earlier animated Batman. However, it's larger this time around to accompany the BAF pieces. Doesn't mean it's not collector-friendly, however, and everything is easy to get out… provided you snip out the plastic ties holding the figure in. Standing at 7 1/2" tall, Bloodsport is pretty nicely detailed, and the outfit is quite accurate to the film. While there's nothing wrong with the sculpt, it's the paint they did a poor job on. The colors used here are minimal, and there's nothing bringing out the smaller details. The promo shots showed off the figure with a much nicer paint job, but as far as I know, this is unfortunately the final product. But aside from that, the sculpt still looks great. If you've gotten any of McFarlane's recent figures by now, then you would know that Bloodsport's articulation is pretty much in-line with what we expect by now. He has a ball-jointed head and chest, swivel/hinge/ball shoulders, swivel biceps and thighs, double-hinged elbows and knees, swivel/hinge/swivel wrists, swivel/hinge hips, swivel/hinge/rocket ankles, and hinged toes. Everything moves well and allows for plenty of poses, but I wish there was a bigger range of motion in the shoulders. The ball joints help out, but butterfly joints (allowing them to move further in front and behind the chest) would've been great. As far as accessories go, all Bloodsport has to fight with is a pair of swords. I would've liked more of his weapons, such as a firearm or two, but these are still nice inclusions. There's also a BAF piece for King Shark - his torso - and like with every other figure in the DC line, a display base and a card. While Bloodsport isn't a bad figure, the rushed paint job and bare-bones accessories are the only things holding him back. Other than those, everything else is done pretty well, and you'll definitely need him so you can build the King Shark figure. That paint though… ugh. I'm definitely going to repaint him and make him look nicer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
