Accessory Set Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca)NECA sure likes doing accessory packs, even though they don't do them often. But still, they put in some of the most memorable aspects of the properties they're relating to - Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Alien 3 - to make them special. The latest one is the NECA Store-exclusive Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie pack. This went up for pre-order last year in the summer, and now everyone who ordered them are getting theirs, including me. First off, the box for this is BIG - about 12" across and 11 1/2" tall. The box is adorned with the classic poster art of the turtles peeking out of the sewer on the front, and photos of the new accessories on the back. It's easy to open, too. Just remove the tape on the side and pull out the plastic tray with everything inside. Everything's kept in with more plastic covering it, much better than those pain-in-the-shell ties. First off is probably the most notable part of this pack - new heads for the four turtles! Leonardo has an open smile, Donatello has a more wide-open one, Raphael has a slight grin, and Michelangelo has a closed mouth smile. All four heads have the ball-joints already in them, because of how they work in the regular heads, though you'll need to warm up the necks on the regular figures to swap out the heads. They also have the new bandana ties, designed to drape over the shoulders, that were included with the Walmart re-releases. The heads look great, and the paint is nice and clean. Up next are the accessories that were already made for the 1/4 scale line, which are the cracked mutagen canister, bag of chips, bag of pork rinds, pizza box, nunchuck spinning hand for Michelangelo, and four baby turtles. The baby turtles look great and despite being only about 1 1/2" tall, they have just about the same amount of detail as the 1/4 scale ones, as well as ball-jointed heads and swivel/hinge shoulders. The new hand for Michelangelo is two pieces, the hand and nunchucks, and both fit together easily. The pizza box is made out of cardboard and has plenty of text and good detail on it, and four slices of pizza are included as well. There's also plenty of other new accessories included, and what we have as well are a straw hat, sewer lid, street sign, television, skateboard, newspaper, bottle of Turtle Wax, damaged Shredder helmet, and stuffed animal. The street sign stands about 10" tall and makes a good addition to any street scenes you want to set up. The television sculpt has been used before, but we got a nice picture of April on it. The straw hat is designed to fit on any of the turtles' heads, which is good. The stuffed panda has swivel/hinge legs to display it either sitting or being held, and the skateboard has moving wheels. The Turtle Wax bottle is special because is has all the authentic detailing of a real one, and it's not a made up brand like "Tile Game Pizza", and it shows what lengths NECA will go for to get iconic items done. The newspaper actually opens up, though the detail on the interior is blurry as opposed to how clean the outside is. This accessory pack is definitely a key part of the movie line, and everything here looks great. I would've liked it more if it had some extra hands for the turtles, like closed fists or wider grips to hold the new accessories, but that doesn't mean this pack isn't perfect enough already. I just hope NECA will give this another go around so those who missed out the first time could have another chance. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
