Rocksteady (Bunny Suit) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca)I already reviewed one of the TMNT Lootcrate figures, now onto the next one. The cartoon crate came with a new Rocksteady figure in the bunny suit from "The Turtles and the Hare", which involved the turtles traveling to a fairy tale dimension to get the help of Hokum Hare to stop Shredder's latest plot, and the dimwits Bebop and Rocksteady got dolled up in Easter-appropriate outfits for this plan. While Rocksteady came with the crate, Bebop could only be obtained if you pre-paid for all three crates at the same time instead of paying individually when each on is shipped. The package uses the same design as the toon two-packs at Target, and it's very collector-friendly. And bonus, all of the previously released figures are listed on the back of the box. Being a variant of Rocksteady, it's no surprise that there's a few parts reused from the regular figure. The arms sans shoulders and legs sans feet are reuse, but everything else is new. The head looks very much like the original, but re-sculpted to remove the ears in favor of a hood with bunny ears. The suit is a layer of soft plastic covering the body underneath, and it looks nice, though the tail is a bit smaller than it should be. He stands 6 1/2" tall, towering a bit over the turtles. The paint is very well done on him, and the cel shading and black lines are perfect. The articulation is not too much different from the regular figure, with a ball-jointed neck, hinged jaw, swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, and hips, swivel biceps and thighs, double-hinged elbows and knees, and rocker/hinge ankles. I'm not sure if there's a joint hidden under the suit, but if there is, it doesn't move too well. Speaking of things not moving too well, the tight joints that were present on earlier toon releases are an issue again here, especially in the hips, which have the ratcheting hinge that makes them hard to move and also carries the risk of breaking them if you're not careful. There is a tutorial by one of my Twitter friends on how to customize the hips to move better, but all I needed was some hot water to get them moving better. Those thigh swivels are crazy tight, however. Moving onto the accessories, the alternate hands - gripping and grasping - are also reused from the original figure, and they swap out well. Two episode-specific accessories are included as well, which are an Easter basket and a "Docilizer Ray", the device he and Bebop used in the episode to turn people into submissive cowards. If you got Bebop, then he has the same accessories, though with a repainted basket. Rocksteady is a very neat variant with great paint and nice choice of accessories, but those tight joints are an issue, especially the ratcheting hips. Why they didn't go with the ball-jointed hips on more recent releases is beyond me. I sadly don't have Bebop since I went with the individual payment plan, but I didn't make that mistake again with the new wave of Lootcrates. I did the four-crate plan and I'll be getting the bonus figure as a result :) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
