Mutagen Man Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) (Super7)During the original TMNT line, Playmates relied on weirdness for the line. The crazier they looked or the goofier the ideas, the better. Combine that with greatly detailed sculpts for a line made in the late 80s-early 90s and you got something. Well, that's just my thoughts, but getting one of the weirder characters, Mutagen Man, who was a bunch of organs in a big glass container, in Super7's ULTIMATES line is a dream come true for many. Standing at about 7" tall, Super7's take on the character is just like the original, but bigger and more articulated. I'm talking swivel/hinge joints at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, and they all move well with barely any restriction. The decaying skin and exposed muscle tone are present here, and it looks just as grotesque as ever. The clear plastic making up his life support system gives a view of the organs inside, and the top of the system comes off just like the old figure. I heard he's not watertight, so that's a no-go on pouring water into him. The paint on him is very clean, with no real bleed or slop whatever on him. My only nit with it is the paint on the organs. None of them are individually painted except for the eyes, and while there is some wash applied to him to make it stand out, I would have preferred the individual paint apps. The mutagen gun is replicated here, though it's mostly solid yellow with a few gold accents, and I would've liked more variety on it. All of the tiny assorted garbage is replicated here as well, including a bone, wrench, yellow eyeball, fish, pizza slice, apple core, and a turtle. Like always with these figures, there's a weapons rack, but it's only for the garbage (no gun on it), and it has a more updated "machine" appearance. Lastly, there's a pair of fists you can swap the regular hands out for, and it allows for more display options. Overall, Mutagen Man is a cool figure, but sadly I don't find him super interesting. The lack of paint in certain areas is my main issue, but I will give Super7 props for finally giving everyone an updated version of this freak. Of course, he was in the cartoon as well, so how far off could a NECA version of him be? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
