Write a Review link for that item. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) (Super7)When Super7 announced a new line of 7" scale TMNT figures, everyone was in on it. The first wave did very well, enough to issue re-releases with recolored weapon racks earlier this month. Though prior to that, the second wave, consisting of Leonardo, Shredder, Bebop, and Mutagen Man, shipped out from the company back in December, but it wasn't until late January this year that BBTS started shipping them out as well. I pre-ordered the whole second wave from them, and I'm starting my reviews of it with Leonardo. The packaging is just like with the previous wave, window box with bio lifted from the Playmates figure on the back, and a slip cover with manhole cover on the front and logo on the back. Everything is easy to open and get out, just some tape and twist ties to cut off. It's no surprise that 75% of Leonardo is reused from Raphael from the previous wave, especially the body, which is a different color, being dark green as opposed to the regular green on his brother. The head is not reuse, however, being one based off of the original figure. Like with Raphael, there's an alternate "modern" head that looks angrier and more battle-ready. The belt is also a new sculpt, with holsters in the back for his swords. The paint on the figure as a whole is very clean, with only a few blemishes. The articulation is the same as Raphael as well, with a ball-jointed head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists (vertical-type), hips, and knees, swivel biceps and thighs, ball-jointed waist, and rocker/hinge ankles. Everything moves pretty well, but the hips and knees are where I had problems. The hinge on the left hip was pretty tight, and that combined with a small peg made me fear breaking it, but I managed to get it free. The knees are also tight as well, but some warm water should make them move more smoothly. At least swapping the heads is easier this time around. The accessories are mostly the same as well. The horizontally-hinged hands and grasping hands are reused, but the fists are new. The swords I mentioned earlier are also new, but getting them into the hands can be hard, though two pairs of hands with different types of joints allow for plenty of display options with them. The only other new accessory is the unpainted weapons rack, which is pretty accurate to the original figure. Everything else - the shurikens, kama, fist daggers, pizza, and turtle coms - are reuse, but with different paint ops to tell them apart from Raph's accessories. The weapon handles are a different shade of brown, the pizza has some wash applied to it, and the turtle coms are less brighter in color. Overall, Leonardo is pretty good aside from a few issues. The reuse from his brother works well here, and the new paint on the accessories is good to have as well. $45 isn't a desirable price point for these figures, but nothing's really cheap anymore. Though come on, Super7, fix the hips. I'm surprised that I haven't heard any reports of them breaking yet.   by RMaster007 |
