RMaster007The rivalry of Oroku Saki and Hamato Yoshi; one died, the other became the leader of a ninja clan known as the Foot, known as the Shredder. What he didn't know was that his slain rival's pet, Splinter, was exposed to mutagen and seeks to avenge his master.
It's only fitting that these two would be packed together when the movie line moved from GameStop to Walmart, and while I never saw one when they first came out, they're now all over the place. I was at a local store yesterday and saw SIXTEEN of them! Crazy, right?
The packaging's basically what I described when I reviewed the other movie figures, so let's move onto the figures themselves. The Splinter puppet used the the film had fur like a real rat would, and the sculptor(s) did a good job translating that look in plastic. The...[

April O 'NeilTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Basic Series

RMaster007Reporting live from Channel 6-er, 3 news…
It was pretty inevitable that the reporter April O'Neil would be a part of the TMNT movie line, and this one had the benefit of being a pre-order. People started getting them in a couple months after the initial sale, but for those who passed on it, Walmart didn't get any in until April of this year. Makes sense, I suppose, but I couldn't for the life of me find her in-store. Like Casey, I ended up paying $45 for her at a toy show.
The sides and back are much like the previously released ultimate Casey, and by extension the rest of the line, but the front is pretty unique. It's a series of lenticular TV screens, all of which show Ms. O'Neil. Fits well given her occupation. On the inside, the figure is held in with twist ties instead of those...[

Casey JonesTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Basic Series

RMaster007While there’s no doubt the NECA TMNT lines have gotten easier to find in 2021, there were still some that eluded me and other fans. While a lot of people found the Turtles in Disguise four-pack and Dirtbag/Groundchuck in their Targets, I never saw the former, and I’m still searching for the latter. Walmart isn’t any better, but it’s starting to look up. I managed to find the repainted Super Shredder and the Saki/Yoshi two-pack, but no sign of the “Ultimate” Casey Jones.
Not the first time I had trouble finding a Casey, though. I never found either the movie or toon two-packs featuring him last year, and like two months ago, I had to pay $85 for the toon set. Sure, it was quite a bit, but it was a better deal than paying like three times the SRP on eBay. Alongside that quarter-scale...[

Danny PenningtonTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Exclusives

RMaster007Last year, when LootCrate revealed their TMNT series, many, including me, we mainly drawn in because each crate would include a figure by NECA. They weren’t anything real special, with most of them being redecos and repaints, but this year’s wave was more promising because it had pretty much newly sculpted figures, and they weren’t variants of existing ones, either. The first crate, which is movie-related, began shipping out like a month or two ago, and rather than just review the included figure, I’ll go over what is included alongside it.
First let’s talk about the figure; Danny Pennington, the teenager who gets involved with the Foot Clan and Shredder. He’s one of the characters made just for the movie, and I don’t think he’s as memorable as the more major ones like the Turtles,...[

Oroku Saki / Hamato YoshiTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Basic Series

RMaster007I think the main thing I love about NECA’s TMNT line (aside from the great sculpts and accessories) is just how deep they went it. Rather than just doing the four turtles, a few allies and villains, and being done with it, they showed just how much they love the license by doing pretty much everyone they can. Just look at the cartoon line; we got the Triceratons before Splinter. This applies to the movie line as well, because not only did we get the first ever figure of Danny Pennington (who I will review soon), but also Oroku Saki, the man before he became the Shredder, and Hamato Yoshi, Splinter’s owner (unless you count the old Mutations figures by Playmates).
The packaging is the same as the other two-packs we’ve gotten at Walmart so far, being a big window box that require nothing...[

Accessory SetTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Basic Series

RMaster007NECA sure likes doing accessory packs, even though they don't do them often. But still, they put in some of the most memorable aspects of the properties they're relating to - Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Alien 3 - to make them special. The latest one is the NECA Store-exclusive Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie pack. This went up for pre-order last year in the summer, and now everyone who ordered them are getting theirs, including me.
First off, the box for this is BIG - about 12" across and 11 1/2" tall. The box is adorned with the classic poster art of the turtles peeking out of the sewer on the front, and photos of the new accessories on the back. It's easy to open, too. Just remove the tape on the side and pull out the plastic tray with everything inside....[

Tokka & Rahzar (Neca Store)Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Secret of the Ooze

RMaster007Last year was definitely a great one for NECA with all the new figures and licenses, but the best license to come out of them was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They covered the original cartoon that introduced many to the franchise, the 1990 movie, and even the fan-favorite video game Turtles in Time. We got many great figures, and the best ones of them are Tokka and Rahzar.
The two were introduced in Secret of the Ooze, the sequel to the original movie, as New Line's answer to Bebop and Rocksteady. The two became popular pretty quickly and have appeared in other adaptions of TMNT since. Along with Super Shredder, these two were the first SOTO figures to come out of NECA.
T&R's release was special, and that means they were released as pre-orders on NECA's online store last summer, and...[

Super ShredderTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Secret of the Ooze

RMaster00730 years ago, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made their theatrical debut, and it was so successful that the crew went right to work on the sequel, Secret of the Ooze, and while it wasn't as positively received as the first movie, it still has quite a lot of fans.
In the film's climax, Shredder, powered up by mutagen, faced off against the Turtles. However, his plan to take them out, collapsing a pier on them all, didn't work out for him, and he died in about a minute. Despite his short screentime, the super-powered Shredder got a lot of attention.
Years later, NECA has produced a new figure of "Super" Shredder. As with the first movie two-packs released earlier this year, this figure is a Walmart exclusive, but that unfortunately made him hard to get. Thankfully, around the time NECA...[
