Beetlejuice (Tour Guide) Beetlejuice (Neca) - Ultimate Rated 4.45 stars by RMaster007 I feel we've all heard of Beetlejuice, be it through the film or the animated series, and there's no denying he's the ghost with the most. I've seen both the original film and its sequel twice by now, and they're both great horror-comedies. NECA's had a bit of history with the first film, as it was the first line of figures they've made, and now we're getting Ultimates. The first Ultimate for him is this "Bio-Exorcist" outfit which, while not as iconic as his striped suit, was his main look for most of his screen time.
The front flap of the box depicts what looks like a flyer for Betelgeuse's (pronounced Beetlejuice) services, with an aged, unfolded appearance. The movie logo is a sticker in the upper right corner, and it can be removed if you so desire. As per usual, there are photos of...[See More]
Guerrilla Gorilla Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates! Rated 4.55 stars by RMaster007 Super7's TMNT Ultimates line has featured a wide selection of characters, mainly well-known figures from the vintage toy line, but a few deep cuts as well. New figures of more valuable vintage releases like Scratch and Undercover Raphael, characters lifted from the Mirage comics like Karai, and unique variants and new looks added more variety to the line-up, but then there's Guerrilla Gorilla, a character that isn't any of that. He came from the lesser-known TMNT Magazine by Welsh Publishing in the early 90s, and until now, it's unlikely most fans of the franchise knew who he was or the source material was. You'd be forgiven for thinking he's something Super7 just made up, but no, he's an actual character, and he finally has a figure.
In order to fit in with the rest of the line's...[See More]
Kevin Eastman (Garbage Man) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Exclusives Rated 4.45 stars by RMaster007 As we all know, last year was TMNT's 40th anniversary, and more than a few companies were celebrating. NECA knew just how to honor the milestone, and while they put out a SDCC-exclusive two-pack of the initial Turtle designs, followed by a redeco for mass retail, NYCC saw them going a step further and making a figure of co-creator Kevin Eastman. This figure apparently comes from a deleted scene from the 1990 movie that was reduced to, I believe, a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo. Now that's a deep cut!
Since Eastman worked as a garbage man in the film, it's only fitting that his box art be modeled after a dumpster. It's designed to have some age on it, with plenty of rust, stains, and graffiti, and the motif in general is really nice and unique. This is a window box with a fifth-panel flap,...[See More]
Alasondro Alegre as the Chief Beastie Boys (Super7) - Ultimate Rated 4.50 stars by RMaster007 In the midst of all the nostalgic characters, Super7 has put out some pretty impressive music-themed figures in their Ultimates line. I've gotten a couple of them, including Notorious B.I.G., Lemmy Kilmister, Cliff Burton, Czarface, and the Slayer Minotaur, and they all turned out surprisingly good. One of the latest music releases is the Beastie Boys, in their outfits from the Sabotage music video, having shipped out just as 2024 ended. They've done a few ReActions, but these are the first Ultimates of the band, and I believe the first "wave" of music figures that has more than one.
Since Super7's (mostly) stopped doing slip covers for Ultimates, it allowed them to change up the packaging a bit. The Ultimates logo is right on the front of the box, rather than on the top, and the...[See More]
Buzz-Off Masters of the Universe - Classics (Mattel) - Basic Series Rated 4.40 stars by RMaster007 I've already covered a figure from Mattel's MOTU Classics line, but it was from the cartoon-accurate "Club Grayskull" line, and it was by Super7. Not long after getting that one did I get a proper Mattel one in Buzz-Off. He was one of the few my local toy store had, and the one with the best price during their Thanksgiving sale, so hey, why not?
Having been sold directly through Mattel online, the Classics figures came in somewhat unique mailer boxes. It's very simple, being white with a grayscale logo and the character's name, and not much else. Inside the box is a plastic bag placed over a cardback for the figure itself. The graphics are nice, including a character bio and cross-sell on the back, and I had no issues getting everything out.
Much of Classics' designs were meant to be...[See More]
T-800 (Endoskeleton) Terminator (Neca) - Basic Series Rated 4.35 stars by Dark Fire Action Figure Art The best version of NECA's T-800 Endoskeleton. While the Cult Classics and Terminator 2 releases had articulated jaws, the head sculpts weren't very accurate. This head sculpt on the other hand is a lot more accuracy. It includes one accessory in the form of a phased plasma rifle, but no alternate hand like previous T-800 Endoskeletons.
This version was originally releases with their "The Terminator" line, but was difficult to find and all the copies had their biceps on incorrectly. This one lacks that problem and is overall a good figure. The sculpt is detailed and the articulation is pretty good too. The pistons, joints, etc can be fragile so it should be handled and posed with care. This is especially true with the supports on the neck, so you'll want to be especially careful...[See More]
Serpent Hunter Predators (Neca) - Series 17 - Alien vs Predator Rated 4.50 stars by Dark Fire Action Figure Art A mostly faithful recreation of the Serpent Hunter Predator from the Aliens vs Predator 2010 video game. This was somewhat of a surprise release given this Predator isn't a main character in the game and is kind of obscure. It was a dream figure for me at the time of release just due to the Serpent Hunter mask alone.
It uses the AVP (2004) Predator style body, which is easily one of NECA's best Predator sculpts given it's articulation, height, and just overall look. This figure has a few unique parts from the others. Aside from the unique masked head, it has unique dual wristblade gauntlets with retractable blades. The left gauntlet also has an opening wrist computer. The belt/skirt are unique as are the lower legs. The figure can hold a lot of cool poses, but part of the skirt can get...[See More]
Sludge Transformers - Studio Series (Hasbro) - Movie Rated 4.45 stars by RMaster007 It's been a long time since I last talked about one of the Dinobots from Hasbro's Transformers Studio Series, but now that they've released the last one needed, and I now have all five in the Leader format, it's time to finish up these reviews. Sludge was the third one released, so he'll be the third one I talk about.
Sludge came after Hasbro decided to try out plastic-free packaging, so his box is a lot different from Grimlock and Slug/Slag. It isn't a window box, but rather a big illustration on the front, depicting the Dinobots' rescue of the other heroes from the Quintessons and Sharkticons. We still have the movie-themed backdrop on the inside, and it's meant to be for the figure rather than just part of the box. Inside of a plastic tray, we have a cardboard one that everything is...[See More]
Endoskeleton (Judgement Day) Mafex (Medicom) - Terminator Rated 4.55 stars by Dark Fire Action Figure Art This is probably my favorite T-800 Endoskeleon figure even if it is in a scale I don't often collect. It has great sculpting and is pretty solid (my copy was at least, aside from a loose foot joint).
For a long time the NECA T-800 Endoskeleons were my favorite depiction of the killing machine in figure form, but this one has slightly better sculpting (IMO), and has more display options given the alternate hands it includes. That and it can hold two plasma rifles (two of which are included), which is something that is difficult to pull off with the NECA ones. It comes with a stand, but can also stand well on it's own, and it has solid joints as opposed to the loose ones I've come to know the NECA ones for (having multiples of that mold).
I only have a few issues with this figure: 1:...[See More]
Bone Throne Predators (Neca) - Dioramas Rated 4.75 stars by Dark Fire Action Figure Art An awesome piece with great sculpting and a lot of heft. Some of the tail spine bits on the back were a bit fragile on my copy and were chipped, but other than that it's a pretty cool piece. It includes some Alien Queen dorsal tubes/spines, but they tend to not want to stay plugged in, and the plastic they're made of causes them to droop over time (the Alien Queen figures have this same issue with their spines). I personally just never bothered displaying them on the throne as it takes up less space without them.
As for displaying figures on it, your experience may vary depending on the Predator your wish to sit on it. Most can't completely sit due to their armor, the NECA Clan Leader Predator it's often shown with being a good example as he will not sit flat due to his armor and...[See More]
