Optimus Prime Transformers - Classics (Hasbro) - Voyager Class Rated 5.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire Having never gotten into the Transformers craze is something I now regret. Any TF I now see that I like costs me some major cash to get. Luckily there are some still decent people in the world who are willing to help new fans, like me, get some info and get my hands on these little pieces of history (and in some cases HUGE pieces!) This being my first TF review, you'll have to forgive any odd/inaccurate terms I use, like calling a Power Matrix the "shiny doo-hickey".
Optimus Prime stands ready for battle at over 6 1/2 inches tall (fully transformed). Out of all the Primes I saw, I think this one looks best. He has a sleek look while the others I've seen look much bulkier. Now, I'm not sure...[See More]
Glad to see you finally got your Prime Doc! I told yoiu that figure frickin rocks! Just be warned once you start collecting these things its hard to stop! As far as the jointsgo they very seldomly wear out. Weak joints was a problem for the first couple of G1 and G2 series but has since been dealt with. Prime will probably have tight joints when you and I don''t
I hate you so much, I almost bid 35 bucks on a Hound the other day Just two more TFs, I swear! I can quit whenever I want to! I saw the red Jeep guy at TRU (Rollbar?) but slapped my hand away...
Anybody know how useful the Beast Wars variants are? I have a tub of them sitting around that I usually run into about once a year...
Colossus (Super Strength) X-Men - 2006 Series (Toy Biz) - Series 3 Rated 4.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire First of all, what the hell!? I don't know who the dorks are that decided to make colossus a 10-foot tall behemoth but they need to be shot and tranquilized and then shot again. Every time I saw Colossus in the comics he was a tall muscular guy, but nothing like this bulky monster! He looks too old, looks stronger than Hulk, and he's bigger than Thor! That's where I draw the line. If some Colossus fan boys wanted to make a Hulk-lossus then fine, but they shouldn't have been hired to make this figure. Now I understand why so many people make Colossus out of Sinister.
That's it, review over!
...just kidding...
Colossus stands a little under 7 1/2 inches tall and is built like a bull, nay, built like a semi, NAY, he's built like a frikkin' dinosaur. There's not much to say...[See More]
We need some serious quality control in those toy-factories! I''m getting blue Storms, jakked-up Colossus, blurry-eyed Beasts, what''s going on!? Same thing happened to my FO Captain America, there was paint in one of the glove''s pegs and it ripped off when I tried to turn it! >_<
Beta Ray Bill Marvel Legends (Toy Biz) - Series 15 - Modok Series Rated 5.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire If Odin's omnipotent hand had anything to do with a figure then you have to buy it. Behold Beta Ray Bill in Asguardian glory!
Bill stands hammer to hammer with Thor at 7 inches tall! This guy is phenomenal. He's muscular enough to exude power but not over-done like that horrible Bishop from a few series ago. I can see many customs being done with Bill's upper-body because it is so well-made. The detail is amazing all over from helm to toes. The wings on his helmet are finely crafted and are painted silvery-white. Bill's face has wrinkles and crevices exactly where they should be, as do the arms, and the teeth and mouth are neatly painted. The only problem with the skin is that it isn't shaded so you can't see the detail at all (a quick wash with black fixes that right away). The boots on...[See More]
UPDATE: I managed to force Bill''s arms to his sides and now they work! They just need a little coaxing but they''ll stay down if you push hard enough.
I love this fig. It''s one of my favorites in my collection. I thing the old fig Toy Biz had looked better but the posibility of this fig makes up for it. I he looks a bit more mucular in the early comics to me. I was thinking about a wash of burnt umber on his flesh to bring out the details. Plus I think the gold-tone of his skin is too light. Still he is one of my Favorite Legends... A rare, powerful, and interesting subject.
Hobgoblin Amazing Spider-Man (Toy Biz) - Series 2 Rated 4.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire Looks like someone purposely decided to make slight annoying "mistakes", yet again. I'll get these out of the way before I rant about them in the main review. :) Hobgoblin comes with a cool metallic-lavender glider that attaches to a rolling smoke-base (to simulate gliding). The smoke trail on the glider can swivel around. Hobs comes with a (removable) plastic-leather purple pumpkin-bomb bag, but nothing fits inside it! Why have a bag if you can't use it! He also comes with a pumpkin-bomb, but it is sculpted onto the palm of his left hand. Why would they do that!? The good part is that you can twist it off with little to no damage to his hand. The most annoying thing (to me anyway) about Hobs is that his legs are too long. It's not like they're too long by just a millimeter, they are...[See More]
I agree, his legs are much too long. It''s as if the legs were intended for a figure without the tall boots he has and then they added boots. It may also be so that he can better bend on the glider. You can get some pretty cool poses if you ditch that cloud and attach they glider to a flight stand.
Yep, I figured the legs had something to do with posing him on the glider. The leg joints got loose on mine though so it''s impossible to get a good pose wihtout some divine intervention (that would be me) xD
Huntress Batman - Hush (DC Direct) - Series 1 Rated 4.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire Well what d'ya know, a beautiful DC figure that is actually 6 inches tall! No need to modify Huntress in any way to match your Marvel scale. What I find surprising is that you don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get her, unlike that ridiculously expensive Nightwing from the same Hush series (it looks great, but yikes! $40 and up!? No way!). You can still find her for 9 to 15 dollars in stores.
Helena Bertinelli (what is it about heroes with Italian backgrounds that makes them want to PUNISH everyone? :D ) stands 6 inches tall, and a little taller if you count the mask-spikes. She has an elegant face, but aren't her eyes supposed to be blue, not purple? (maybe she's wearing contacts?). The...[See More]
Phoenix (Green Uniform) Marvel Legends (Toy Biz) - Series 6 Rated 4.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire Is there anyone who doesn't know who Phoenix is? I even asked a nun if she knew who Phoenix was and miraculously she did! (I guess she read comics before!?) Anyhow, I was expecting some fanciful new body sculpt for Phoenix, to impress the fans (because no one would have forgiven them if they used an Elektra body for her), and well, they sort of did. They replaced Electra's ugly hips with more natural-looking ones (I still think they could reduce the crotch area a little more, but it looks pretty good as is). The legs and upper body are still standard though. At least they could have given her hands in a "projecting" form like Storm's, though it's nice to have an improved female body to use as custom fodder (we love you Warbird!).
Our beloved Jean stands about 6 inches tall, even though...[See More]
Psylocke Marvel Legends (Toy Biz) - Series 14 - Mojo Series Rated 3.90 stars by Henchmen4Hire I really hate getting my hopes up with new Marvel Legends figures because they keep letting everyone down with useless and incomprehensible modifications to what could otherwise be perfect figure. Psylocke: perfect example. Not only is she short (even though she's supposed to be 6 feet tall, same height as almost everyone else) but her fingers and boot-tips aren't hinged. I can ignore the boot-hinges but why mess with the fingers? I'm glad the sculptors are making new and improved hand poses but please, keep the articulation! These guys managed to give Shadowcat's tiny hands a finger-hinge, and made it look good, so I'm sure they could have made Psylocke's hands articulated. Also, the hips are ball-sockets. Usually these types of hips have an ugly, or at the very least a "unique" sculpt,...[See More]
I''ve said it b4 n I''ll say it again: Toy Biz can never give us a decent enough woman figure. You''d think Hasbro would try n rectify this w/ better lookin'' chicas but the girls on the way look freakin'' hideous.(see: Emma Frost & X3 Jean Grey) why? why can''t they get it right? If u mix n match body parts from other legends chicks you can get something that''s closer to the desired effect. That also doesnt mean I want to buy 10 diff figures in order to get that. (I still will be buyin about 3 of ''em!) hahaha!
I liked how Jean looked but I think she''s going to get LOTR articulation!? The body looks a lot like Arwen''s! Emma''s hips are wierd...think she''ll get the same body as Psylocke?
Longshot Marvel Legends (Toy Biz) - Series 14 - Mojo Series Rated 4.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire As we all know, nothing good came out of the 80's, nothing except Longshot and his golden mullet of course! But even such awesomeness can be marred by the touch of some disgruntled sculptor, as many of the Marvel Legends figures have been, and Longshot is no exception...I'm going to stick that damn sculptor with a paperclip when I find out who he is...
Longshot stands 6 inches tall and about 6 1/4 inches to the top of his shaggy mop. The likeness was captured well in the face (although if the jaw were a little more angular he would look even better), but his hair is sort-of...yuk. In the comics it's loose and looks like sharp quills flowing behind him, but the hair on this figure is too "round", it also looks too thick. Hard to explain unless you see it in the comics! Also, it isn't...[See More]
I agree with your analysis of them needing to relate the BAF to the series. The Sentinel and Apocalypse all had a bunch of mutants/x-men. The Onslaught came with a bunch of other villians. Giantman came with several Avengers. The only other BAF they made a mistake with was Galactus (he should have come with someone out of the FF).
They should have saved all the Brotherhood mutants for the Blob BAF series! (or make it all fat people, lol) They could have made each series dedicated to a certain group of characters too. Like all FF and a BAF Doombot or all Spiderman and a BAF Spider Slayer! I would buy like 10 of those things!
Fantastic Four (4 Figures) Marvel Legends (Toy Biz) - Box Sets Rated 4.90 stars by Henchmen4Hire Susan Storm seems an odd name to give someone with invisibility abilities (try saying that 10 times, fast!). The name makes her sound like she could bring down a building with only a thought, but actually she's a real sweet-heart! Well, at least the figure from the Marvel Legends Fantastic Four box set is cute. She could be a raging alcoholic for all I know, like our friend Peter Park- I mean, Tony Stark! I've never read a FF comic-book...
Mrs. Fantastic stands about 6 inches tall and about 6 1/4 inches if you count her short, spunky, blond hair. In fact, she has an overall perky look, like she ate too many pixie-sticks, but in a good way! I remember seeing her in magazines with long hair, but what do I know. The hair is a very light brown and has a nice sculpt. She's so cute with big...[See More]
Supergirl (White Shirt) DC Super Heroes (Mattel) - Series 2 Rated 3.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire The face really makes or breaks a figure. Would you buy a Superman figure if he looked like Chuck Norris? Ok, bad example, of COURSE you would buy that, you'd buy 100 actually and erect a shrine to his honor, but you wouldn't buy this Supergirl, even though she looks like a man, and that may be close to Chuck Norris, but it's not enough. If this Supergirl had the Head of Chuck Norris, her quality would sky-rocket a thousand-fold, but since she's just ugly, you'll see a thousand of them sitting on the store-pegs.
This Supergirl wears the suit she had on the Superman Cartoons, white shirt and gloves, blue skirt, red cape and boots. The skirt is made of rubber, and it looks fine, but it's sort-of flowing, the Supergirl I remember had a tighter skirt to make her hips look slimmer. The cape...[See More]
