Phones Q-Force Communications Officer Action Force Character: Phones was the sonar/communications officer of Q-Force, the nautical branch of Action Force. Design: Loosely based on the Palitoy version, with an added helmet. It keeps the baggy trousers on the upper legs, but shifts the rest of the design to more of a wetsuit. The hip pouches of the Palitoy figure are carried forward, while the gun attaching to the backpack is definitely a Classified Series look. The Lifeline backpack might have been the best communications backpack in the entire ARAH run, better than Breaker’s or Dialtones. But because it came with a medic, it’s often forgotten. Colors & Paints: Using the Palitoy color set, as they best fit on these parts. All of the webgear is now blue instead of red, but some red is added as knee pads to balance it out. Blue straps help the red sculpted dive hood stand out. This is a tone-down yellow, Americana’s “French Vanilla”, instead of the saturated yellow I used for Leviathan. The duller yellow makes it more palatable in such a large amount. The Palitoy figure featured a red dive hood with red headphones. Here I’ve made the Scrap Iron helmet yellow, but with its earphone portions and added microphone red for more contrast, as the name calls for. This doesn’t contradict the Palitoy version, but enhances it with the helmet as a new item to be worn over the red dive hood. Splitting the helmet into two colors, especially the bright yellow, minimizes the Scrap Iron/Cobra* vibe as much as possible. The head also features eyes that aren’t sculpted level, so I didn’t paint the “eyelashes” line above the eye to not draw attention to this. Some pops of color for the buttons on the backpack. And a slight wash over the speaker box. Sculpting & Modifying: The Cobra symbol was removed from the helmet. The microphone is sculpted from kibble and the visor removed. The midriff is sculpted, and the forearms are also bulked up with epoxy. The lower legs were switched at the boot edge and blended. The webgear is glue in place, with the larger pouches being push molds of the ROC Ice Viper. Thanks for looking. *yes, technically Scrap Iron was an Iron Grenadier, but he was colored as a Cobra. ![]() |
