So I am thankful that Kenner gave us so many figures from the animated series. But they've always seemed to come up short & not really exactly like their cartoon counterparts. But I am grateful that many of them gave me a good base to start fixing their errors. I've been doing this for a long time. And did many of these figures before. But looking at my display, I decided many of my older customs were still not perfect to the cartoon. So I started revisiting many of the older figures & fixing them further. When Kenner released Batgirl. She was in the Duo Force line. They gave her some goofy sled accessory, which wouldn't have been a big deal, but they got the colors wrong. For whatever reason, the made her black & white, with circuitry in random places on her suit. Wjy they didn't make her gray like the cartoon is a mystery to me? They kept re releasing her in other goofy colors & actually came close a few times to the right colors. But there was never a show accurate release. So probably 20 years ago ( Geez it was a long time ago ) I decided to just repaint one of the Batgirl figures I had in gray & blue like the show. And I was done. Well, in my old age I have become wiser? Or maybe just more particular? I would look at that Batgirl in my curio cabinet & it always bothered me that the gray I used was actually too light & I was never a fan of the head sculpt. So I wanted to fix that. I realized there was a Walmart exclusive Batgirl that came out in the late 90's that was close to show accurate in color. The suit was gray, but everything else was the wrong color. But that was the best base to start with. So I acquired one on ebay & went to work. I had to paint everything that should be blue. But then came the tough part. I liked the hair & cape from the Kenner figure, it's just the head that is all wrong. The blue cape did come on the Duo Force version. So I acquired one of that figure to use as a donor. Next problem, the head, hair, cape all all one piece. So I seriously had to do some surgery. I carefully cut the head part off. Which was tough without destroying the rest of it. And transplanted a new, more show accurate head. I drilled a hole in the head & hair part. Used a dowel rod to keep it in place & glued it together. Then I used some apoxie to sculpt in the gaps. The pics are of the figure transitions I went through to get to where I'm at now. How I did the head on the cape. And the completed new version. I'm pretty happy with this figure now & think she is definitely show accurate. ![]() |
