Eco-Warriors Trailer Portable Launch Platform / Anti-Tox Supply & Fueling Supply Station GI Joe Design: The Tyco GI Joe Electric Trucking set including a tractor/flatbed, which transported the ICBM, which was called a “satellite”. Here we’re rethinking things a bit. The tractor flatbed set remains, but now a two-level flatbed is a launch platform for the Phi Star Transatmospheric Cruiser (no more ICBM) up top, and an Anti-Tox supply station down below. The cruiser will be the next vehicle in this project. The tractor trailer crew include Blowtorch and Fast Draw, two Joes familiar with fuels and other hazardous liquid materials. The rear platform is pulled from the same Solider Force scout car that provided the front brushbar/tow cable for the tractor, tying the tractor and trailer together even more. Colors & Paint: Finally, a splash of color on this set. The vehicles so far have been an olive/pine with a dirty black wash. While the trailer itself sticks to this, I decided to use the blue and yellow of the ARAH Eco Striker for the tanks as a nod to the lone ARAH EW vehicle. Blue for the larger tank and yellow for the smaller one in proportion to their uses on the ARAH Eco Striker. The blue has a bit of teal in it, but it was the closest spray paint color on hand. Since the tank is visually surrounded by green, the green in the teal “goes away” to some degree. Good enough. But even with the intentionally vibrant colors, some griming was in order. The yellow fuel tank looked like a mustard bottle (which it actually WASN’T in real life!). To correct this, I added a splatter layer that I mostly painted over, then rolled it on the garage floor to pick up little bits of grime. For the blue Anti-Tox tank, I scraped the bottom and edges just enough to take away some paint. Even though the underlying exposed plastic isn’t silver, it looks right. With all this, the bottles still required the grimy black wash to match the trailer. The wonderful ToyHax decals improve everything about this project. Sculpting & Modifying: The bottles’ caps were cut off and replaced with the wider, flatter ones from prescription pill bottles. The bottles and rear seat were glued in place. It was fun to build. Adding the back platform to the trailer and front brushbar to the tractor is what made it click as a GI Joe vehicle. Both parts came from the same Chap Mei vehicle, really tying it all together.
The custom decals were also fun to make.
