Sam Keith's "The Maxx" one of the most iconic cult comic characters. Saw one episode late at night in the 90s and fell in love, but than never saw it again, would always check but nothing. A few years later my mom bought me a spawn violator, and I fell in love with spawn. Shortly after that...(Being before Internet was everywhere and info was easy to quickly look up) I almost fell to my knees when I turned a new spawn figure that just came out around and on the back saw "The Maxx" was in the set. BUT!!!! The elusive SOB would evade my every attempt to dig it off the many toy shelves I would scavenge. For years I would never see one in person. 2003 or 04 a fellow nerd that lived down the street would have a Maxx that he wasn't selling but I convinced him to sell it eventually I imagine $10-$20. I wanted it, NFG! Finally had him in my collection. The guy I got it from was Matt Sterling, who years later would try to bring guns into Phoenix comicon, which I hadn't seen since high school, but I didn't go that year, and when I was at home with the news on taking a pee I heard the name in the background not thinking much of it when I came out and saw the mug shot I was blown away. Still have that Maxx. Even a few more years and Todd McFarlane opens his first official toy store in AZ. And I'm there with my family to buy stuff and get some signatures. Waiting in line for like an hour finally get to see what they have for sale and it's all the current lines at the time a lot of spawn collector club stuff(YES!!) and for some off the wall reason the only figure from spawn series 4, the only figure even that old..... staxx of the MAXX!!! I felt disbelief and anger... betrayal. I was starting to think what the hell all those years and you guys were just hiding them in your warehouse!!!! I think I bought 2 but certainly one this was in the package my other was out missing the Isz. Just personal memories of the Maxx figure for me, was my first holy grail, still chuckle about that McFarlane memory The Maxx is a pretty unique guy if you don't know, he's a bum that's given superpowers from a lamp that fell through a tear between reality and the outback. Not really superhero stuff going on more psychological and amazing art, Sam Keith's art has actually been an inspiration to me, I don't really say that much, but it's amazing. I have another comic by him called "Epicurus, the sage" that's beautiful and funny. The Maxx is almost fully sculpted on a ML Ulik figure. Cut his head off and lowered it, extended the forearms, shortened the calves, cut all four middle fingers out wedged them open a little(to give that phat bird some space) and sculpt the claw. The original toe was chopped and I made a mistake I could have fixed but was being stupid, I turned the foot around putting the peg in the heel instead of the toe, kinda ruining the foot movement. Used both original abominations finger and palm joints for the double joint toes. Almost didn't articulate them, then all the sudden I was like "what are you doing?" The Maxx was made for toe joints! Added foil where needed. The regular fingers were left alone as well as the panties and the large back half of the belt. Fully sculpt all heads, the toon head I used some very trimmed up SW 3" hand swivels for the animated eye movement. The Isz is made of Bionicle joints SW 3" ball joints for shoulders. "NAUKNAUK" it's a new app I think a lot of you guys will enjoy. You just plug in one or two pictures and it will bring it to life with AI. It's seriously the coolest thing I've seen in a looooonnnngg time. ![]() |
