PROFILE: Barclay, Reginald, distinguished himself by helping to avert the destruction of the U.S.S. Enterprise. While on a routine mission to deliver medical supply cryo containers to a plague-ridden planet, the U.S.S. Enterprise's major systems malfunctioned; the anti-matter injectors froze, catapulting the U.S.S. Enterprise forward into space at accelerating warp speed. Self-destructive burn-out was inevitable. Barclay was assigned to assist LaForge in diagnosing the cause of the problem. Barclay identified a little known substance found ion the medical cryo containers. The substance had been spread by the crew throughout the ship and was the source of the contamination that caused the anti-matter injectors and other ship systems to malfunction. Nicknamed 'Brocoli' by his fellow crew members, Barclay was characteristically shy, introverted and lacking in self-confidence, but gifted with imagination. Until this incident, he lived vicariously through his vast repertoire of holodeck programs, including one fantasy program in which Barclay fences with Picard, Data, and LaForge as the Three Musketeers.
