Albert Rothstein is the grandson of former supervillain Cyclotron, and godson of Al Pratt, the original Atom. He got the ability to grow to superhuman height due to his grandfather's exposure to radiation. He took the codename Nuklon an was part of Infinity Inc., a team of sons and protegees of the Justice Society of America members. Many years later, he changed his identity to Atom Smasher as a tribute to both the Atom and Cyclotron and joined the JSA.
