In 1991, Hodgkinson went to Mexico City seeking work in wrestling and impressed Paco Alonso and Antonio Peña with his unique appearance. They introduced him as Vampiro Canadiense in CMLL. Despite his limited moves, Vampiro became popular due to his rock star image and appeal to Mexican women. He won several hair vs. hair matches in 1992 and competed in tournaments, reaching the semi-finals in the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship and the finals in the CMLL World Tag Team Championship. Vampiro later joined other Mexican promotions but returned to CMLL in 1998, participating in tournaments without success. His last CMLL match was in 1998.
In 1998, Vampiro signed with WCW and made his debut by defeating Brad Armstrong on WCW Monday Nitro. He later formed a stable called 'The Dead Pool' with the Insane Clown Posse (ICP) and Raven, engaging in a feud with Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio Jr., and Konnan. Vampiro also had a feud with Berlyn, culminating in a Dog Collar match at the 1999 Mayhem event, which Vampiro won. He brought The Misfits into WCW and feuded with Oklahoma and "Dr. Death" Steve Williams. Vampiro then aligned with Sting as the "Brothers in Paint" but eventually turned on him, joining The New Blood and costing Sting the United States Championship. They continued their feud, leading to a Human Torch match that Vampiro won by setting Sting on fire. He later focused on The Demon and won the WCW Tag Team Championship with The Great Muta but lost it the next night. Vampiro took time away from wrestling after the birth of his child and returned to face Crowbar in a Hardcore Match. He challenged Mike Awesome at Halloween Havoc but lost and suffered an injury before WCW was purchased by the World Wrestling Federation, making his last appearance on November 1, 2000.
