King Hiss led the evil Snake Men in Preternia times. He and his men were exiled to an interdimensional void by the Ancients and Zodak. The void was deep inside Snake Mountain, so centuries later, Kobra Khan, a descendant of the Snake Men, tricked Skeletor into opening the void. He-Man stopped it, but Khan would later get Evil-Lyn's help to free King Hiss and the Snake Men. Hiss freed the snake god Serpos, but He-Man defeated Serpos while Zodak defeated Hiss, seemingly killing him (though Hiss said Serpos would find a way to revive him).

Years later, Skeletor and Kobra Kahn (now an Evil Warrior) find an energy pool in Snake Mountain to make King Hiss return. Then Skeletor and Hiss summon Rattlor and Tung Lashor from Etheria. King Hiss and Skeletor make an alliance, and their combined power is enough to unearth the Three Towers.
