After witnessing a hideous ceremony performed by Mola Ram, Indy leaves Willie and Short Round hidden on a balcony while he recovers the Sankara Stones from the bizarre altar at the head of the Temple of Doom. Unfortunately, when Indy disappears to investigate distant screams, a horde of Temple guards emerge to take the hidden intruders captive.
